Free Practice: I knew I could go fast and put in some good lap times around Silverstone so I just needed to get used to the bike again and not show my hand in free practice. I still put in a half decent time but wasn’t giving it 100% yet. I felt really comfortable and confident on the bike. We made a few small changes to the suspension that made it turn a bit better through the last twisty part of the track.
Qualifying: I knew I could do some really good times and was really confident that I could get pole. I set a lap time of 1.34.8 and this was good enough to get me pole and it felt really good running at that pace I didn’t feel out of control everything seemed really smooth. I knew now all I had to do is get a good start in the race and get away at the front from the start.
Race: I felt really confident going into the race and got off to a good start behind Tom Grant. I sat behind Tom for 2 laps and knew I could make a move and pull away from him because I knew I could carry a faster race pace than Tom. So I made the move and got my head down. I was the only one who got into the 1.34 second laps and run at that time consistently. It was hard being out in front for the whole race but I knew I just had to keep my head and keep putting in good lap times so I could keep the gap big and not let them close in on me. I brought it home to win the race and I’m really pleased with this result.
I was really pleased with the win and hope for another good meeting at Brands but we will see.
There was a lot of important people there at the weekend and I’m glad I had a good result because I need some good sponsorship for next year or to get in a good professional team that want to bring someone on. I know I can do it if I’m just given the chance to!
