“I learnt a lot from Mondello”
Having never ridden at Mondello before James spent the two sessions on Friday getting used to the bike and sorting out gearing for the track.
In qualifying James felt more at home with the track but the bike didn’t feel like it was handling too good. He finished 12 th in this session on a 1.48.610 a much improved time from Friday. In the second qualifying the bike felt better and James qualified 10 th on a 1.48.056. This meant that in the combined qualifying James qualified 12 th overall and was starting from 3 rd row.
Race day – Sunday: James felt good in the warm up but knew, once again that he had to get a good start. Unfortunately the start was not as brilliant as James would have liked it to be and getting a little blocked in with the other riders he had his battle on once again. Once clear he got his head down and made a charge for it. James finished 10 th and once right on the tail of 8 th and 9 th place riders on the finish line. James said “I was a little disappointed to start with, with my result but pleased with my race times, I felt like I had learnt a lot from the whole weekend. I must thank Stuart Nicholls for all his help in preparing my bike and talking me through things.” James’s fastest lap in the race was 1.46.579 just 0.4 seconds of the new lap record which was set during the race. |
