Friday Practice:
Session 1 - I went out and unfortunately I had a mechanical failure with the bike and had to push the bike back to the garage from the first corner. We managed to get the bike running and fixed the problem, I thought I had to go fast early on and high-sided on the second lap. We could not then fix the bike to get back out in this session so I sat out for the rest of session 1.
Session 2 – I learnt from my mistake and kept cool. I went out and got quicker every lap, I didn’t do a very good time but it was only free practice and I knew that I could go a lot quicker.
Saturday Qualifying:
Session 1 - I went out running in at first, after running in I went 1 second quicker than I had in free practice and I just got quicker and quicker and I did my fastest lap on the last lap a 50.2 which put me in 5th position.
Session 2 – I went out and knew I had to go faster. Putting in consistent 1.50 laps but I knew I had to go faster so I put in 120% and dropped my times by 1 second getting it down to a 1.49.3 on my last lap, this put me in 3rd place on the grid.
Sunday Race Day:
Warm Up – I knew I had a good set up for the race so I just went out to bed myself in.
Race - I got a good start and was third into the first corner, made my way up to second and then moved up and into the lead. We were battling and Pol Espagaro moved into the lead, I got held up a little by another rider and he managed to get away. I moved back up into second place and started to close the gap but he retaliated and stretched the gap to 5 seconds. There was a gap behind me to third place which was also 5 seconds but on the last lap I though I had it and lost concentration and lost the front end going into the hairpin and crashed out of the race. The bike was too damaged to carryon, I was gutted but it had happed and I couldn’t do anything to fix it so now I have learnt from my mistake. Looking forward to the next round at Albacete in July.
I would like to thank Alberto Pugh and Raul Jarra and everyone in the Red Bull MotoGP Academy Team.
