Friday:
Free practice 1 – I went out and felt a little tensed up. On the first two laps I had Kalio and Bautista come past me and it just made me realise how fast these lads were. Anyway I was building, building, building and at the end of the session I was pushing it but my lap time wasn’t as good as at the beginning of the year. I think this was probably where I was just too tense from knowing I was riding in the World Championship.
Qualifying 1 – It was spitting very lightly and I went out not knowing how hard to push it. It then started raining heavily and I didn’t get a good time in and was 40th overall. We put the wets in and I went back out, I had a little slip off with two minutes of the session left but I was ok. I worked out that I was seventeenth in the wet but obviously the times were quicker at the beginning of the session because of the weather.
Saturday:
Free practice 2 – I went out and knew I had to get a fast lap time in. I did 5 laps and then came in for a new set of tyres. When I went back out I knew I had to go fast and this was the time to put the quick laps in. On my first flying lap I came into the 6th corner and just got on the throttle and it spat me off. I got back up and knew straight away that my arm was broken. I was taken to the mobile clinic and they said that it was fractured and that they had to manipulate it back into shape whilst I was awake. That was the end of my weekends’ racing but I still learnt a lot and met a lot of very nice people so it was a bad weekend and a good weekend and a huge experience.
Things I learnt:
- Run the bike into corners faster.
- Chuck it on its side quicker.
- Don’t brake so hard.
