The weather was absolutely foul it was windy, wet and very cold. Daniel went out for his race and although battling against the strong winds, Daniel tucked himself behind his fairing and made his way to the front of the back. Then pulling a substantial lead on the others, the heavens opened and it started to rain. Going round the first corner Daniel managed to hold on to his Aprillia well, it was the second corner that caught him out and he slid off. One more defeated by the weather and battered bike. The rest of the meeting was then cancelled due to the horrific weather conditions.
We then had some re-building to do for the MRO on the Sunday. Doing the best he could and working well into the evening Jimmy rebuilt the bikes and plasters were applied to the boys!!
Sunday MRO Day: - Still with strong winds to contend with and the hint of rain in the air things didn’t look too good, weather wise.
Aprillia Superteen – Daniel went out in the wind for his qualifying session. Again we were very worried about the weather conditions. 4 laps into qualifying Daniel managed to gain pole position by 3 seconds, we decided to pull him in to save any more crashes before the race. He hung on to pole position by 2 seconds. The first race then and Daniel was there on pole, last year’s contender Kev Coghlan was placed next to him and so the battle begun. All through the race the two of them battled with each other until finally on the line Kev got the win by 300ths of a second to Daniel. Over-the-moon at only his second ever meeting on the bike - Daniel was made up.
His second outing of the day – the second Aprillia Superteen race. There they were again front row next to each other. The battle began, once again race lead changed several times during the first couple of laps and then Kev went missing leaving Daniel with a substantial lead to bring home his first win!!! He looked at me with a big grin on his face and just said “Happy Mothers Day Mum” it was just brilliant. |
