Saturday / Bemsee – Once again we were up against the wet weather. Daniel was up against the rest of the pack that had been practicing all day on the Friday. He did his practice session which consisted of about 3 or 4 laps of the circuit. Starting from a grim 20 th on the start line and battling against the wet weather conditions Daniel managed to make his way slowly up to an excellent fourth place. The second race was to be started from 4 th position on the grid, a much better chance for Daniel to be up with the front runners from the word go, and he was but then disaster struck and the bike got slower and slower until it finally stopped on the side of the track. Daniel was very disappointed but came in to help his dad sort out the problem. The ‘Plug’.
MRO Superteen: - Qualifying was to be held on the same day, the Saturday. Having sorted his bike out and putting on his new tyres which were to be scrubbed in in the five minute warm up they were supposed to get before qualifying he was ready to go. Suddenly no five minute warm up so it was straight out for qualifying. Daniel new he had to try and scrub the new tyres in for the first couple of laps in the wet this was going to be hard. He managed to qualify 11 th on the grid. Not too pleased with this position he was a bit down at the end of the day.
Sunday – Race Day. Daniel went out for the warm up session. Set off fine ½ a lap later, not even that, the bike stopped again, disaster! In he came now really disappointed. We looked at the bike, cleaned it up, probably some muck got in? Not knowing for sure if we had fixed the problem Daniel went out for the start of the race. Starting on 11 th position on the grid, in very damp conditions, avoiding a big pile up on the first corner he moved down to about 18 th, never mind Dan settle for a finish we all thought. No, Daniel made his was slowly through the pack picking them off one by one until he got up to third and that was where he finished, brilliant ride! Collecting the fastest lap by 1 second.
Second Race – Now he knew the bike was sorted and running perfect. Starting off again in 11 th position on the grid and avoiding the busy first corner Daniel had again slipped back to about 19 th again keeping his cool he rode perfectly, picking them off one by one making his way up to second with a good 2 or 3 seconds between him and the leader he kept going. The race was cut short by 1 lap so this was the final lap. Disappearing out of sight we all thought great 2 nd but as Daniel reappeared he was actually leading the race going into the final complex on the track Daniel slipped the wrong side of a back marker leaving the other side open for the contender to slip through, Daniel got second by a whisker but achieved the fastest lap by 3 seconds!!
